2022 was a year where clients and agencies alike saw a lot of changes and complex issues linked to the Magento upgrade path.
Magento 2.3 reached end of life on the 8th September 2022, which caused a the majority of our support clients to upgrade to Magento 2.4 following the announcement, so that they did not miss the deadline and risk non compliance for PCI. Adobe then later announced that version 2.4.1-2.4.3 would be unsupported as of the 28th November 2022, largely because Adobe has recognised the complexities of the latest upgrades.
Adobe understood that there was no appetite for ‘Magento 3’ and chose to apply significant improvements to the existing Magento 2 platform via the upgrade path. While it's true that Magento sites running earlier versions will still operate, they will no longer be officially supported, meaning Adobe will not search for vulnerabilities and supply patches to resolve these issues. Neither will Adobe resolve any stability or performance issues for versions older than 2.4.3.
However, the good news is that Adobe has introduced some greater stability into the upgrade path, so that Magento 2.4.4 is supported until 2024. Adobe will also continue to bring out bug fixes and security patch updates in the interim period - which are far less complex to install.
The most recent version available is Magento 2.4.5p1 and you can read more here on the release notes directly from Adobe:
